On September 3, 2024, the ''Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University's Joint Carbon Neutral Laboratory'', jointly founded by Beihang University and Groupe des Écoles Centrale, was officially inaugurated on Beihang University's Hangzhou International Campus. Mr. Lou Xiuhua, director of the Hangzhou Science and Technology Bureau, Mr. Gilles FLEURY, general delegate of Groupe des Écoles Centrale, Mr. Zhao Weisheng, vice-president of Beihang University, Mr. Yan Yong, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering and director of the International Research Center on Carbon Neutrality of the International Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University, Mr. Sun Qingfeng, secretary of the Party Committee of the International Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University, Mr. Hong Guanxin, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and director of the International Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University, Mr. Adnane BOUKAMEME, French director of Sino-French Engineer School of Beihang University, and Mr. Luo Hongbin, Chinese director of Sino-French Engineer School of Beihang University attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by academician Yan Yong.

In his speech, Mr. Lou Xiuhua, Director of the Hangzhou Science and Technology Bureau, reviewed the design, construction, and completion process of Beihang University's Hangzhou International Campus. He completely admired the positive impact of the Hangzhou International Campus on the development of Hangzhou's education, talent, science, and technology, and the construction of this city as a modern, international metropolis. He hoped that Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University's Joint Carbon Neutral Laboratory would play a pioneering role in scientific and technological research, the training of international talent, and the transformation of achievements into marketable products.

Mr. Zhao Weisheng, vice president of Beihang University, emphasized in his speech that tGroupe des Écoles Centrale was Beihang University's most important French partner. Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University's Joint Carbon Neutral Laboratory is the first international joint laboratory of Beihang University's Hangzhou International Campus, and Beihang University will fully support the construction and development of the laboratory in terms of talent introduction, achievement culture, funds, and locations.

Mr. Gilles FLEURY, general delegate of Groupe des Écoles Centrale, declared that cooperation between Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University had a long history and total mutual trust and that the founding of the laboratory opened a new chapter in cooperation between Beihang University and Groupe des Écoles Centrale. He hoped that China and France would work closely together to build the joint laboratory.

Mr. Adnane BOUKAMEME, French director of Sino-French Engineer School of Beihang University, said he would do his best to coordinate the members of Groupe des Écoles Centrale to promote the construction and development of the laboratory. Mr. Hong Guanxin, director of the International Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University, welcomed the establishment of the joint laboratory on behalf of the institute and hoped that the joint laboratory could further promote coordination between enterprises, universities, and scientific research institutions, as well as international cooperation for International Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University. Mr. Luo Hongbin, Chinese director of Sino-French Engineer School of Beihang University, reviewed the foundations and history of cooperation between Beihang University and Groupe des Écoles Centrale in the field of carbon neutrality and put forward an initial idea on the construction and way forward for the joint laboratory.

To the warm applause of guests, teachers and students, the leaders present inaugurated the Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University's Joint Carbon Neutral Laboratory, which means that Beihang University and Groupe des Écoles Centrale have officially begun their in-depth cooperation in the field of carbon neutrality.

Groupe des Écoles Centrale and Beihang University's Joint Carbon Neutral Laboratory is an important initiative taken by both parties in response to the consensus of the two Heads of State and the Joint Declaration between China and France in 2023, this initiative is of great importance in promoting bilateral cooperation in the field of carbon neutrality, facilitating the innovation and application of carbon neutrality technology and training talents in this field.
